Those "four-digit" Rawlings gloves do not appear in their sporting goods catalogs, but all seem to be from the late 80's/early 90's and to be conventional mid-priced gloves. Many seem to be versions of the venerable Rawlings RBG36 pattern. Most likely, these were produced specifically for sale through a retail outlets, like Sears, JC Pennys or K-Mart.

Who was RBG? I read somewhere a long time ago that these are the initals of the glove designer for the entire line of gloves from sometime in the 1980's. Doc can you provide some corporate history? My google failed to turn up anything on this . Thanks!

My understanding is that RBG was just in the model model number to designate "Rawlings Baseball Glove". Along the same lines, when the RBG model numbers were introduced, many of the "softball sized" gloves were marked RSG (ie: "Rawlings Softball Glove").

your right its simply Rawlings Baseball glove or softball the one with the 4 numbers was probably a RBG 36 but dealer wanted different number because of walmart. The 4 didgit one was for a Texas chain and I can't remember their name. It was someting like Orcelean. They were big time in the early 80's I visited many of them while I was in the Rawlings sports caravan. But luckly the memory was the first thing to go. Loved going to Texas, Rooster Andrews was my favorite character and dealer...
