now what do I do?

In 1970, my future brother in law invited me to play a pickup game of baseball with he and some friends. I said sure but I'd have to borrow a glove because I'd lost mine when my family moved a few months earlier. We played and had a great time. Two or three days later he gives me a used but nice glove and tells me it was his old one and I could have it. A Rawlings XPG6 Mantle. I used it, my 4 children and dozens of little leaguers learned to catch with it and I still love it. I had it out and was cleaning it up tonight so my grandchildren can use it when that same brother in law stops by. I show him the glove and remind him that he gave it to me 37 years ago. He confesses to me that he stole it from another kid at school all those years ago then gave it to me. I'm seriously feeling really bad. Now what should I do?

If he knows who the kid was, I'd try to track him down and return it.

What you should do......

.....keep your eye on your brother-in-law and your possessions when he is around!

hey mittmutt, that's a sad story, i bet the kid who your BIL stole it from really was bummed. if you find the guy who it belongs to, be sure to take a few pix and post them. it will be interesting to see it for the (last?) time :?

Track the guy down and return it. You'll be glad you did. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. After reading your reply's, I mentioned tracking the fellow down to my bil and he told me he wasn't even sure who the kid might have been because he took it from a group of gloves at the junior high school. I think I'm going to ask my bil to donate some sports items to a local boy's club as an offering for past misdeeds.

Brown...red tag...picture of a cow in the palm...I think it is probably mine. Why don't you just go ahead and drop that one in the mail

Burker, it probably is yours. Next time you're in Salt Lake City just stop by so I can personally turn it over to you. I'll need to get a few pictures for the forum. I wouldn't dare put a "member of the family" in the mail, lol, unless of course it was my brother in law.

Not really the same thing, but when I was 14 I lost my beloved Spalding 42-3235 (Rick Monday model). I actually think it was stolen. Last year (26 years later) I bought a mixed box of unknown gloves on ebay. In the box was the same model Spalding glove. I put it on my hand and it fit perfectly, just like my original. I swear it was my old glove, magically returning to me.

Anyway, It sounds like you've shown your old Mantle glove a lot of love over the years so I think you should keep it.
