The HH wasn't introduced to retail sales until 1955. Pros got them earlier, likely in 1954. Same as the Trap-eze Rawlings which didn't hit the retail stores until 1960; pros had them as early as 1957.
Mays used an HH. It's in the HOF with goo provenance.

During my visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame this fall I had the priveledge of seeing a Rawling HH model on display that was touted as the glove Willie used to make "The Catch".It had been given to the son of a team mate that I can't recall but was donated to the Hall.It didn't surprise me that he used an HH.It was the top of the line even though he endorsed MacGregor in later years.

We did a story on the donation of the HH by Craig Liddle, son of Don Liddle, Giants pitcher to whom Mays gave the glove as a kid, in the Glove Collector Newsletter.
If anyone wants a copy of that article will be glad to provide.
The glove was pretty beat by the time Craig got through with it. No telling what it would have sold for.
