Sorry to stray off the topic of gloves, but with minutes to go before the 2008 Hall of Fame class is announced, I’d like to voice my support for Jim Rice. As a lifelong, diehard Yankee fan, Jim Rice was the most formidable hitter to step into the box against my beloved Bombers. More than any other player during the late 70’s and early 80’s, Rice was feared so much that even fans knew the potential ramifications as he strode to the plate. I hope this is his year… as well as Goose’s, obviously!

I should clarify that George Brett was THE most feared (and respected) opponent of the Yanks back during that time, though Rice was a close second. I had often wished that the Boss would trade Reggie for Rice. He would never had done that with his marquee player, but I’m sure Billy would have jumped on the deal!!!

Looks like Rice just missed out - that is disappointing.
