The sad part about this whole cleaning debacle is that the intent was simply to inform the board of what people were talking about. I thought that was the whole idea behind the forum.

Hopefully a dissenting opinion is also welcome on the forum (and some return "agitation"). Glad that nobody has taken any of this personally. I respect your opinions and your knowledge of the hobby and of your master craftsmanship in repairing and creating vintage gloves, William. Cleaning white gloves? Why should I even care? I have owned exactly one of them (a Goldsmith one inch web; lightly cleaned [non-abrasive category,please] for those who need to know.) But then I read "all gloves" and "battery acid" and that there was a consensus among collectors. Well, my nerve had been struck and I just wanted to find out why. Wouldn't you?

I found it funny and creative, Greg ... now let's see some equally creative Cobb captions! Sometimes a little humor helps take the edge off of a debate, and I agree with Brett that debates are ultimately a good thing. William, I appreciated the National feedback and your personal viewpoints as well (and thought they added value). Murph, not sure the National comment added much value or humor, but I thought this shoe polish one was funny. By the way, I really don't like show polish on black gloves ... here we go.

Thanks for providing a forum where we can "agree to disagree", Brett. I apologize if I've overreacted to some of this and appreciate the clarification that's been added along the way. I've done my share of beating this topic into the ground and am finally ready to move on. But...shoe polish?! Oh well, if it doesn't work out, a little battery acid takes it right off.
I'm starting to think that I've used up my quota of excruciatingly bad puns, Rob. Whereas you and Ricky seem to have a never ending supply. Darn you, caption writer's block!

JD... Which battery acid works best, AA or D?

Jim and I just spoke on the phone and cracked up about how out of hand this got. It was an small topic of discussion in Baltimore. No one was badmouthing anyone, in fact, no names were even discussed. Everyone has their own view on this topic, as they're entitled to. People have been cleaning gloves, their own way, for as long as they've been made, and will continue to do so. In the name of preservation, though, all some are asking is that before acting, ask others for opinions as to how to conquer the task and even if it should be undertaken in the first place (for certain gloves). This is exactly what this forum is for.

Lastly, okdoak's jabs were brilliant!!! If you can dish out agitation, you have to give credit where credit is due and take it! One question, though, why did you choose a sterling/yen chart? I trade currencies and am curious if you think that cross is set for a drop like you indicated?

I just picked one out from Google Images. Just my luck to pick one that someone on the board understands and calls me on. I just liked the dark arrow going straight down at the end. I probably could have posted a graph of my 401K's funds performances with the same results. That one is a bar graph, though and I like this thingamajig (line graph?) better. That's as technical as I prefer to get on these matters. I agree that a little agitation can be a good thing for the forum. It spices things up, jump starts the discussion, and provokes people into posting. It did that and more for this one. After the hot button has been pushed, it's tough to respond in a civil manner, though. I think that the somewhat paternal tone ("Just sit there with your sippee up cup, Bobby, and leave glove cleaning and how collecting works to the Big Boys") was not appreciated. On the other hand, maybe I misread that. Either way, I've thrown in the towel and feel that it's pointless to stir things up further.

Emotion brings out debate, that's what I was going after. As for misreading what I initialy wrote... to an extent. But I sure could have been much clearer in how I presented it. It was written in a joking manner but it didn't translate that way, much funnier in my head.

After having a laugh with Jim this morning, my wife said that we're all worse than "The Real Housewifes of NJ". That hurts!!! Now if we have a group hug, I'm going to puke!
