Looking for base mitts (lefties)

Hi all.

I'd love to pick up a few unused, or great condition base mitts (lefties). I'm trying to assemble a collection of base mitts that show the evolution of the mitts used at first. My plan is to put them around my den in chronological order, with a picture of a star player who used the glove, as well as some bats and other equip.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Are you looking for lefthanded baseball bats also?

Chris, that sounds like a great project. Usually LH mitts sell for less than their RH counterparts so you should be able to pick up some great deals. I'll go through and see if I have any that I can spare. If you like 1B mitts, you should drop crackofthebat a note - he has a wonderful collection of them. I think most of them are posted on JD's site but for easier searching, go to the link below and click on "Fred Collection" - you may be able to see some styles that you like and will give you a better idea of what to look for.

As for the left-handed bat, sometimes people refer to reverse label bats as left-handed bats. If it was just a joke, try using the emoticons on the left to make sure the reading masses get it.

Haha! I immediately thought about upside down/reverse labels, but didn't really know for sure....so chose not to answer. I thought it might have been a "get the new guy" joke. :D

Not trying to pull your leg. But

All bats are infact left handed bat with the exception of reverse label bats. The right handed people have had it all wrong all these years.

Look how you display a bat, Lefthanded, you don't display it upside down.

PS I don't use smileys

Thanks for the info, vintagebrett! I had a look and there are some really nice examples. It's interesting to see just how diverse the designs of first baseman's mitts have been over the years. Certain, in my opinion, far more variation in these than in regular fielder's gloves.

Murph, interesting info about all bats being "left handed" with the way the labels are! I had a look at my own bats. I wonder if they're stamped that way so that the label is legible (right way up) when a right handed batter is up at the plate, has the label turned away from the point of impact and is waiting for the pitch.

That's fair. :) I imagine bidding on the same items happens quite a bit amongst members. Did you by chance win that Frank McCormick lefty mitt that ended a few days ago?

Nice. I'm looking for a near mint one too. I'm watching the Ward because I'm interested in how much it'll go for, but I'm not going to bid on it. Good luck!!
