Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

I like a wide glove for softball. I wanted to give a mzp-80 or pro-h I have a bigger, deeper pocket. I'm wondering is it ok to give the lacing slack or do I have to manufacture a custom wider H to distribute the impact blow? It seems most of the force is already put on the lacing.

Is the glove designed to accommodate a bigger web? Its seems to me like it is but I thought Id ask utilizing the wealth of knowledge on this board before I start tinkering around. Maybe somes done this before.

I know there is a pro-h and a pro-30hfw does anybody who own(s)(ed) both know what the difference is? Is it a different glove cut or just a wider web?

in a time when many glovers like to tighten up the laces to make their gloves "like new" again, i have to say that i'm pro "loose" when it comes to trying to swallow up a 12" softball with a made-for-baseball glove. there is a noticeable improvement on how well the glove snags a softball when it hits the web.

this 1st glove i relaced trying to keep the web laces about .75 of an inch longer, the lip balm and sharpie are there for reference





the 2nd glove i didn't want to relace the web because the laces seemed to be in great shape so i backed them out from the web crotch and retied the end in single knots to add slack. note the extra lace i added to cover up the dummy holes left behind when i loosened up the lace about 1 inch

i know that this pro30BFW is a women specific glove with a huge round pocket for (softball?) and the hand opening is significantly smaller (made for smaller hands?) although i'm a RHT'er when i put my medium sized hand into this glove, it was really tight and uncomfortable. this might be a result too of the rock hard horween leather.

it came with a leather hang tag sign by Dr. Dot Richardson

Thank you for your in-depth pictures. Its true most of these gloves are tuned to hardball. To be honest I would've bought a big nokona but I can't get passed that blasted velcro stap. They have cool leathers like buffalo and kangaroo I would've like to felt.

come on guys Dot Richards was the star and leader of team USA when they won a gold medal a great shortstop and a sports Dr. calif.. I custom built her gloves for years she was nice

Hey aliciabb if you are interested in a Nokona designed for softball but w/o the blasted velcro strap consider an AMG 500. It has a conventional strap, wingtip design, comes in open or closed web, and several different leathers including kangaroo. No longer in production but about 8-10 per year show up on eBay, they sell for $85-$125.
