Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

The is my first post and I think I've finally found the right forum for my questions.

I'm currently looking for a couple of new gloves, and I've got it narrowed down to 5 brands. I want a custom glove of Kip, or some equivalent. the gloves that I'm having some difficulty deciding between are Glovesmith, Valle, Trevino, Vinci, and Kazuma.

I've come to learn that though there are 5 brands here, I believe that I'm really only dealing with 3 different gloves. I've been told that Trevino actually make Valle gloves, and Glovesmith actually makes Kazuma.

So, my first question is that if that is true, then is it wiser to purchase from the actual manufacturer, or does it not make any difference?

The types of gloves I want are first an infield glove (mostly 3rd, but could be 2nd and ss too), I'm thinking 11.5in with I webbing. Next, I want an infield utility glove at 11.75" (maybe 12") I'm thinking, but with this one I like the TraP-eZE TYPE WEBBING.

Basically, whatever experience anyone has had with these glove brands, and the types of infield gloves I've described, please offer any opinions you'd like.

Most people on this forum who are into modern gloves prefer Rawlings, Wilson, Mizuno and Nokona. Spend some time reading through old posts, look at pictures of gloves posted, etc... If you are looking for advice, people will recommend what THEY like... I personally would not buy any of the gloves you mention.

i would go with the trevino! they are great. hard, thick leather which looks great. pm me your email address and i can send pics of mine if you want

Um...thanks, and I guess if I wanted general advice on what PEOPLE like, then that is what I would have asked for. Sorry I didn't offer another blank slate to rave about the big boys.

i agree. mike i think there are alot of good gloves out there that are not labled with big name brands. for example; the worth ranger series is essentially HOH gloves...even made by rawlings. Personally, I have a ton of rawlings, they are great, but i love my trevino. its just as solid as its rawlings counterparts. Nothing against you, its just a culture i believe, that the name brands are always the "best". I dont mean to offend anyone, i love all my rawlings and wilsons, but the trevino, in my opinion, is right up there with the "big boys".

Sure, there are a lot of good gloves out there... In fact there are tons of them. You can use them to play baseball and they will help you field and catch balls just fine!

My point is a lot of the forum members are not intersted in "good" gloves. I got into collecting because I was always looking for the "best" glove. So I was just trying to say that if you're looking for advice the audience may be a bit different than typical baseball players.

agreed mike. my argument though is that Trevinos etc... are as great as a rawlings (for sure the imports, not the USA's).

I have owned a bunch of kazuma, they are ok, not great and not terribe, they are made by SSK now, for the price they are average to above average, the colored leather tends to fade rather quick

Fuzzydog - good point on the Trevino. I do like the smaller guys that make a good product to do well and stick around. Often times they make a superior product to the mass produced stuff. Plus it cool to have a glove that is less seen and more unique.
