Vintage Baseball Glove Forum

First I'd like to thank you guys/gals for all the valuable glove information...

This is my first new baseball glove. I only played one year of little league and I don't remember what the glove my Mom got me was, but it wasn't new, and it was blue... Seriously... I guess it was a 70's thing...

So far I've had this glove for about 2 weeks, mostly I've pounded baseballs into the pocket and smelled it... Strange, I know, but somehow I think you understand. I wasn't making much progress on loosening it up until I took it to the batting cages and caught a couple hundred balls from the pitching machine. I haven't oiled it or anything, and when I'm not using it it's tied up with a ball in the pocket.

Any advise you could give on the care and feeding of this beaut I would greatly appreciate...

Nice glove! Best way to break in is by playing catch with it. When I was young I used to put my gloves under my bed and it left them with an uncomfortable crease. When you're done playing catch, throw a ball or two in the pocked and close it up with a rubber band. You'll have to keep us updated on how you like your Nokona. First of all - that glove is gorgeous!! I hope she plays as well as she looks.

I've got that same glove in Walnut leather. I love it, but after 2 seasons of playing ball with it, the fingers are getting a little floppy. I'm considering trying that glove in the Sandstone like you have. Is it really stiff?

As for as breaking it in, sounds like you're doing the right thing. You may want to get some Lexol-NF (slightly different formulation that the regular Lexol in the brown bottle). Lexol-NF won't darken the leather on your glove, where as the regular Lexol will.

I just bought my first Nokona. AMG-175 CW ROO 12". this glove is amazing. This has become my gamer. I took off the tags and played a game the same day. Can't say enough the way the glove feels. i love the craftmanship.

Well did not want them that big, but you can look at the glove. I only use petroleum or nokona's conditioner and play ball. Thats it.

In the store when I was trying on gloves it seemed equally as stiff as the Rawlings Pro Preferred and HoH gloves. It was definitely stiffer than the Rawlings HoH Dual Core gloves, the A2000 and the TPX I tried. It's not as stiff as the Mizuno Classic Pro's, those things are like rocks... After a couple weeks of beating on it with a baseball and a couple hundred pitches in the batting cage it's still pretty stiff, and definitely not yet broken in, it still takes considerable squeeze to grip the ball...

I actually have some of that, I bought it based on what I read on this forum... How do you know when to use it, and how often?

I've gotta give my love to my fellow Nokona owners. I baby my Nokona personalized buffalo AMG175BF, and I'm glad to see some people are fellow Nokona fans.
