Rawlings with "Flag" patch and Made in USA

Can someone please provide some history and thought/rationale behind the Rawlings HOH gloves which featured the flag patch and Made in USA ? I suspect they were for about a year, say 1998 ? Was this Rawlings trying to build a great glove while actually bringing attention to the fact that they were Made in USA, while knowing that USA made gloves were nearing the end of their life ? the gloves were sold through eastbay and that gave them a way to seperate them selfs from import retail HOH's eastbay has always supported made in USA. The flag label stayed with eastbay until this year but the last 8 years were assembled in USA the Philippines cut and stamped their leather and I put them together, but now they are all USA again. Thanks guys and eastbay......
