Spalding 42-3915 Babe Ruth

Postby Cowboy7130 » July 4th, 2008, 11:58 pm

That is a really beautiful old glove. Of course, Ruth never played with anything like that, and there was some discussion in the forum not too long ago about Spalding's use of his name to sell gloves long after his passing.

According to The 2007 Vintage Baseball Glove Catalog Source Book the 42-3915 model does not appear in Spalding's lineup prior to 1976, so it is probably newer than the 1960's. Probably late 1970's, early 1980's. I don't think Spalding used Ruth's name, or the "American/National" patch, much later than that. But I may be wrong, as I so often can be!
Yes, I still have my first glove.
