I have to say that I don't mind the D-Backs (they beat the Yankees in 2001 and you know that saying: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend...") but it's hard to get worked up about a team that has a history starting in 1998! Shoot, I've got milk that old!

And another thing, what's up with Dan Haren's zen-like windup?

Geez, it must be embarrassing to see your team get shutout by a guy that doesn't throw as hard as my 9yr. grandson. Getting beaten is one thing, but shutout??? And oh by the way, wasn't it nice of them D'Backs to give the BoSox 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th the other night? lol Seriously, I think the D'Backs have an excellent team and I look forward to seeing them compete in the post-season. I think those brick red game jerseys look real good too.

As someone who has been a Red Sox fan since the summer of 1967 (Impossible Dream baby), I think I have "standing" to make the following comment:

We Red Sox fans are fast becoming something horrible, something obscene, something that makes others run away in disgust. That's right, we're starting to act like Yankees fans. Resist the urge to gloat, to poke fun at other teams, seek therapy if necessary, but by all means let's not become like them...

As an aside, I'm starting to see evidence of this affliction starting to creep into my neighborhood on the northside of Chicago as well (of course it's not quite as serious because most people attending games at Wrigley Field think of it as a wonderful beer garden with pretty girls that just happens to have on-field entertainment ).

it's all fun - that is the great thing about being a sports fan - giving other fans a hard time.

being at the game tuesday night, i have to say the manager totally blew the game for the d-backs. he took davis out a batter too early - he hadn't even reached 90 pitches yet and the sox had done nothing against him up until that point. i know pedroia had hit the earlier home run but you had drew on deck who was guaranteed to hit into a double play.

Well, at the risk of going off-topic here I feel as though I have to respond. For the record, I must point out that I've been a "long-suffering" Red Sox fan since 1960. So I'm certain, based on what I have endured for the last 48 years of my life (so far), that I think I might have equal "standing" to be ebullient and effusive in my praise of my Ole Towne Team, for as long as it may last. I can also make the same justification for my actions as it pertains to my other favorite team, the N.E. Patriots, because I've been a fan of theirs since their inception in 1960. Your references to BoSox fans becoming "horrible", "obscene", "something that makes others run away in disgust", and "starting to act like Yankee fans", "gloating", etc....., sounds so much like the rants that I hear so frequently on sports talk radio shows from local fans, especially if the (fill in the name of your favorite team here) loses two or three games in a row. Please know that you do NOT speak for me with your comments, which are as broad-based and misinformed a generalization as I've ever heard from anyone. I simply took an opportunity to take a good-natured poke at a D'Back's fan that had already commented in high favor of his team. It was sent up in jest, not with malicious intent. It was meant to be good-natured and friendly. Please do us all a great big favor and try to refrain from making such generalizations about people that you don't even know. From my point of view, this is a fabulously great time to be a sports fan in New England, be it the Red Sox, the Patriots, or of course, the Celtics. Let's just forget about the Bruins for now, because they're still not very good and I personally don't like hockey anyway. When I see a hockey game, all I see is soccer on skates with sticks, and that's just plain boring. Watching hockey for me works so much better than sleeping pills and no nasty side effects. Please keep in mind, all of the stuff I've written here is just my opinion. I have mine and you have yours. Isn't America a great country?!!!! We all get to have our say, right or wrong. Freedom, what a concept!!! One Final Note: George Carlin, R.I.P., you were one of a kind, and your cutting edge, over the top humor will be sorely missed.

Living here in Western CT, I know better than to gloat. I've said a lot of 'Wait 'till next years'...but after two of the last four...I'm in a happy place.

I went to Yankme Stadium for all three games of the '01 Series and was pulling hard for the DBacks...good times.

I went to game 6 of the '01 World Series at BOB and watched the Yankees get spanked 15-2. Twas an amazing game.
