Best of November 2019

Postby mikesglove » November 5th, 2019, 12:56 am

Two sweet ones to start the month. First, a Victor sewn web glove sold for $300. Looks to be in great condition. I like the white leather piping contrasting with the dark brown leather.

A sewn web VWD glove sold for $425. Another one in great condition and high quality. I like the cream colored leather.

Hey Jared, long time no see. Want your glove back? Hah! It's available. The PM function here may not work. I'm at mtinney@sbcglobal.net

A rare Goldsmith Harry Lavagetto "Finger Flex" model CT glove sold for $250. It features the Wilson patent Kurvform welting on the back of the finger stalls and sectioned finger stalls on the front. Goldsmith wanted to make sure those finger stalls stayed curved! Hah. It seems the model CT was a one year wonder in 1941. Gotta love those dead end design decisions. Well that's one avenue to rarity. It's actually a pretty nice glove, just needs a brief stay in Dr. Jackson's rehab clinic.

Here's a rare one. A hecho en Mexico "DeLujo" Alex Carrasquel model glove. He's the uncle of Chico. It's a good quality three finger glove. It sold for $399

A Rawlings Bill Doak model H glove with box sold for $249. The glove is well used but all there. Its big claim to fame is the Doak patch and pocket stamps that places the glove in the mid 1930's. Too bad about the ink. The narrow tapered wrist strap and open back is also a telltale sign. The box has some repairs but seems ok.

Delving into the hinterlands of "gloves and mitts" yields a couple of interesting mitts.
A 1920's Edw. Tryon catchers mitt sold for $99. It's a rarely seen buckle web model. It's a little beat but still pretty cool.

A sewn web Goldsmith model 25 glove sold for $135. It's well worn but survived intact. It has a nice antique look and a bargain at that price.

A 1948 Ripon zipper heel glove that sold for $450. The Ripon glove needs some tlc. One note about the white fatty spew on the webbing. Normal conditioners will only be a temporary fix. There are commercial leather spew removers that may be better long term at eliminating the fatty oils from migrating to the surface of the leather.

A nice one surfaces on ebay. A mid twenties TEW grommet web glove was a black Friday steal at $89. This is the first example I've seen. A must have glove for the Wilson collector. I hope Jared snagged this one.

You called it Mike.
I just got it last night and it's a big glove. It has a model number 650LF. Never seen a TEW glove with a model number that long before. Possibly means "Long Finger" model? Top of the line glove in it's day at a killer deal.
