Everlast Sporting Goods was founded in 1910 by three brothers, Jacob, Morris and Benjamin Golomb. They were tailors trained by their father in New York. Jacob secured a patent at the time for an elastic band on swim trunks to replace the leather strap common in that era. The design caught the eye of The boxer Jack Dempsey who convinced the Golomb brothers to incorporate an elastic band on boxing trunks. Dempsey became a devoted endorser and Everlast soon became synonymous with boxing.
Everlast expanded into other sports equipment. A 1923 ad below.
Morris Golomb died in 1934 and Benjamin Golomb soon left Everlast to form BenLee Sporting Goods. BenLee became a competitor to Everlast. Below is memorabilia of boxer Billy Conn from 1941 featuring BenLee items.
In the 1950's, Everlast and BenLee both made a big push in baseball equipment and shared the same baseball glove designer, Larry Sternlicht.
