Hello,

I am looking for help identifying my grandfathers glove. I have attached some pictures. I can make out "GENUINE HORSEHIDE" on the lower palm. Underneath the pinky it appears to have cursive that starts like "Me..." Some background on my grandfather, Nick Sabo. He played ball in city leagues and coal miner leagues between 1928-1937 that I know of. He was a left-handed pitcher.

Team Sponsor: Hudson Body 1928-1930 - Detroit, MI
Piney Fork UMWA 1930? - Piney Fork, OH
Piney Fork Aces 1934
Piney Fork 1935, 1937
Piney Fork Red Sox 1938?

Thanks for taking a look!

Nick Sabo

I think it's a Mel Ott made by JC Higgins.

That looks absolutely correct! Thank you so much! I see JC Higgins was a Sears sporting good brand. So it was likely purchased at a Sears.

Thanks again!

You're welcome and you're right about it being sold by Sears. It's a high quality glove, possibly made by Goldsmith for JC Higgins/Sears. Pretty neat that you have it and know about his ball playing days.
