Gloves at the Baseball Hall of Fame and their conservation

In addition to the glove photos Mike has provided from the Hall in another thread, here is an informative article outlining the Hall's glove collection and their conservation efforts:
https://baseballhall.org/glove-conservation

Some interesting points:
• More than 500 gloves are in the Hall's permanent collection.
• The first two gloves donated to the museum were from the estate of Christy Mathewson and Cy Young in 1937.
• The Hall’s glove collection is stored in acid-free boxes in a climate-controlled area regulated at 65 degrees and 45 percent relative humidity.
• Treatment time for most gloves range from six to 22 hours with an average of 13 hours per glove.

The article also details their use of conservation labs and the proper training that is required for leather preservation. I think it would be fun to visit a leather conservator and take a day course on how to professionally preserve and restore a vintage glove the way the Hall does it. Groupon!

There is a conservation lab that contracts with the BBHOF. The restore all sorts of stuff including baseball gloves. I would like to work there. It is state of the art. https://www.brhoward.com/furniture-and-objects/baseball-hall-of-fame-collection

B.R. Howard Co. took on this Ty Cobb glove repair. They did a good job.

Here's a Spalding Gehrig mitt that just needed a clean and conditioning.

I'll see if I can book an appointment and stop by this place in PA. I'd love to see some of their glove projects. Something to think about for Spring.
