Glove Question?

My neighbor had a glove when we were in Jr. high/ early high school that I always liked. I am pretty sure it was a rawlings but didn't pay much attention to makers much back then. It had little nubs in the pocket that I think were to reduce spin. The were probably made in the mid to late 80's and maybe through into the 90's. Any one have any ideas?

You are right it was a Rawlings that style web was called a "Spin Stop" I believe. They show up on eBay from time to time and usually don't go for that much at all.[/i]

Yup, ' Spin Stopper '. I have a mint, unused one. Mine is a Rawlings SG 56 and it has one of those big red Rs on the back of the web. I wouldn't want to be the guy to attempt a relace on those 'stoppers' ! Email me if you'd like a pic.

I would love to see a pic e-mail is dwknowles@hotmail.com

Found the one on E-bay not exactly how I remembered... but like I said it is a little hazy. How many models had the Spin stopper? What was the price range on them were they high end gloves or not, Was never a big fan of the kid cause he lied a lot, but he used to talk about how expensive it was

I would love to post a link- if I could find the darn thing!

I saw this while browsing this morning. Thought that I had put it on my Watch list, but must not have. Repeated searches have not been able to find it again!

It had the "nubber" spin-stopper web with a big red "R" on the backside.

*Edited to add: Okay...finally found it. Didn't recall that it was a different model than the SG-series. First time I've seen one of these! But it does give you a general idea what the whole "spin-stopper" thing was all about.

SSK and stopping ball spin

I think the Japanese company SSK had the first idea about stopping ball spin in the late 1970s with its tiny holes nudged into the palm leather. It was touted as reducing ball spin. I've got a shot of it if anyone would like to see it. The pocket looks like a landing on the moon.
