Lefty O'Doul...Little help

I picked this O'Doul up a couple months back, Model 1655

Genuine Horsehide. Light ,legible signature Nr Mint.

Now i know Spalding made a signature glove for O'Doul.

But I'm thinking this model is a J.C. Higgins ? I have seen

similar Higgins gloves with almost the same model numbers

and i think the back strap and stitching gives it away. Also

i believe this is a late 20's early 30's tunnel loop glove? any

help is very appreciated. Thanks...............Mark

Hi Mark,

Pretty glove. It's definitely a JC Higgins. I had one just like it but not as nice. D&M also made a Lefty O'Doul glove.

Endorsed gloves were made for both right handed throwers and left handed throwers, regardless of the endorsees dominant hand.

I know ...

... I was just kidding!

But that brings up a question of mine ... why are right-hand-throw models of gloves of LEFTY players still more desirable? It seems to me ... well, I have a southpaw living in the house with me, so it seems to me that I would want a lefty glove endorsed by a lefty player.

Southpaw discrimination at its worst!

Getting it Right

Most are right and want right even if left. We have some who are left and want all left but they are in the minority as all lefts are. Some are right but want left of lefts and rights of rights only. My favorite description of a LEFT hand pitcher, "the slender portsider." Some lefty players were temperamental- Grove; goofy-Gomez; fine hitters-O'Doul and crooked-Williams. And don't forget there was a lefty "Babe."
Glover Gordon Eaton, a slender portsider, maintains that Lefties have got it right!
