Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. No longer collecting, but I still love gloves and their history. I've been lurkin' on here now and then and decided to post a little more about a glove that's always intrigued me, Lefty Grove's finger laced Reach. Years back I posted some pic's of him with that style of glove when he was with the Red Sox. I just came across a few of him with what looks like an earlier version when he was with the A's.
I've always assumed that these were gloves that were specially made for him and a few other players. I have pic's of Wes Ferrel and Lefty Gomez with similar gloves, but haven't been able to find one in a Reach catalog. I have a Great Western catalog from 1936 that shows a similar type glove, though, so it's possible that Reach made a store model around that time. Anyone have one or a catalog picture of one?
The Reach ad says he used the glove in 1930, when he was with the A's. The auction info for his gamer describes it as late 1930's, which (I'm guessing) would be a different one from when he was with the Red Sox. Don't know the exact years when these photos were taken. His last year with the A's was 1933. The one with him and Lefty Gomez is from 1936 or 1937.
