Opening Day Vintage Glove Sale

Postby Mr. Mitt » April 3rd, 2015, 4:58 pm

Every year around Opening Day when the juices for a new and promising season begin flowing, and we’re all disappointed by the lackluster vintage equipment offerings from the major auction houses, I traditionally make some gloves available, a yearly rebalancing of my collection, so to speak. I’ve enjoyed these pieces immensely, but now it’s time to pass them along.

Instead of putting prices on them, thought we’d try something new. If you’re interested, send me an email with your price and we’ll see if we can get a deal done.

Circa 1911 Rawlings “Sure Catch”. Not only does this duck-web glove predate all other manufacturers, it is the only Rawlings model that has been found. This legendary glove is in superb condition with supple buckskin and a stellar Rawlings patch. Simply the best and most sought after duckie out there!

1929-1931 Reach RFO Babe Ruth Home Run Special fielder’s glove picture box. Minor wear, but the box is complete, structurally sound and unrestored. A wonderful, bright and colorful display piece.

1930-1933 Ken-Wel 632 Lou Gehrig zipper-back basemitt. The backbone of the glove collecting hobby, recognized for its uniqueness, beauty and rarity even by those who don’t collect vintage gloves. Completely original with working zipper and a deep endorsement you could read from across the room, unlike the faint signatures on the half-dozen others known to exist.

Appreciate all of the interest and offers. Much to my surprise, all of the offers received were reasonable and more than fair, thank you. The Rawlings duck-web and the Ken-Wel Gehrig have both been sold. The Reach Ruth box is still available, please write me if you'd like it.
