Best of April 2014

Funny ebay description, a "Mr. New york" glove sold for $68. The front is fairly worn but the shield logo of Norman brand is partially visible. Regardless, it's a large, well made 1" sewn web model in overall decent shape.

A pretty nice Stall & Dean "Grover Alexander" Speed model glove sold for $285. Markings good in the pocket including the ball player stamping.

A stellar three finger D&M "Howard Ehmke" model G74 glove sold for about $750. A lefty model in tan leather with great markings, patch and button. The condition is top notch.

Thanks Mike for posting these!! especially the D&M 3 finger, I haven't seen that palm stamping for D&M before and helped me identify one of my typically well-worn oldies. A 4 finger lefty, but a Maranville!!

Glad to see the price for the GC Alexander, Doesn't "Stall & Dean Speed Model" Roll off your tongue in a seductive way or is it just me??

Now to get a "Speed Boy" D&M G43... I won't be able to run faster, but dang I'll feel like I can.

Did add my first Nokona to the stable, a G51 Pollet, Had a few Nokonas in the past, but my first keeper,Thanks JD, now maybe an Erskine and I won't feel bad when I talk to Joe!!

A Dubow "Peter Reiser" model 351 glove and box sold for $349. Just too nice to go the distance. Great NOS presentation. The glove looks first rate.

A lefty Winchester base mitt sold for $369. The high quality models like this one are not readily found. I like the dedicated web grommets on the thumb. The patch is good and solid overall condition.

Two rare ones. First a J.C. Higgins "Larry French" extended pocket model glove sold for $68. Condition not the best which kept the price down but a popular collector model nonetheless.

Second, An Everlast glove sold for $74. A KenWel design and the little tag by the wrist opening would indicate a "Dazzy Vance" model. Condition again is not great but I have never seen an Everlast "Vance" model before.

A pretty cool looking 1930's Spalding model A3 catchers mitt sold for $154. It's from the lower end of the catalog but this one is really pristine. The white/cream colored leather and black trim are eye catching.

A 1930's Hutch "Cy Young" glove sold for $458. The markings and condition are stellar.

A "Mickey Mantle" model MMP glove sold for $212. This is an early "Custom Bilt" model circa 1959 before the HOH version came out. There is another one selling for $400 on ebay right now and this one is in far better shape. Great looking tan leather, markings in the pocket and patch.

Hey Glovers, Been a little skippy in Dixie, hope all our Southern glovers are ok. Some really neat gloves posted this month, MMP mantle was a steal, and I missed a reach glove that had piping unsewn for $35, nice sewn web. It would fit in my collection, as I reckon mine to a share croppers compared to some Plantation Collections. Not complaining!! I'm a dandy farmer.

Anyway, spied the 1927 Stall&Dean Booklet on ebay that featured Grover Cleveland, Thats pretty cool!! and it was blown by a northern wind up over $150!! somebody post it on here for me please!

Yours in gloves, Drokester

An early '"Decker Patent" Goldsmith catchers mitt sold for $19. The sewn front looks good but the back is very rough. The logo is nice and there looks to be a cloth patch still attached. Despite the tears and missing parts, a pretty good deal.
