Best of August 2013

The good ones don't last long. A 1920's Rawlings "Bill Doak" original model sold for a BIN of $200. Usually well played, this one is pristine with all markings and cloth patches strong. Wonderful white leather inner lining.

Thought this one would be a sleeper because of the poor pictures and inner lining damage but it garnered $240 anyway. It is actually a rare maroon leather Victor, Wright & Ditson model similar to Brett's VWD glove. If it turns out the extra padding on the palm is removed and the lining is 100% intact, than this is instantly a $400+ glove.

An early TOC Spalding crescent pad glove sold as a best offer on ebay. Glove looks to be in great shape with defined crescent pad, no rips or tears. All leather piping and wool lining intact.

An unendorsed 1960's Rawlings XPG6H glove sold for $355 on ebay. This is a little earlier version than the model with "H-Web" stamped on the thumb. Nicely maintained, it has been relaced and the web connector strap has been wrapped with lace I guess to suggest Mickey Mantle's preferences.

this 6 H glove has become almost iconic, probably due to the Manlte Sport Magazine cover. But, I understand, that XPG6 basic pattern has been one of Rawlings all-time favorites over the past 40 years. I was just reading about the glove in a compendium of stories from "Anatomy of Baseball". Story called "My Glove: A Biography."

Another Reach "King Patent" model GA glove popped up on ebay but failed to meet its BIN of $345. It was $100 more than the one that sold 2 weeks ago. This one had stampings on the front you could read from across the room. Interesting how ebay works that way, nothing for a long time-then 2 in a month.

An exceptionally nice TruSport "Charles Ruffing" glove sold for $78 on ebay. I have owned a version of this model and it is a big bruiser of a glove. Possibly made by Denkert and very high quality.

Thanks Mike! Aint figured out how to transfer ebay to here. That button is beyond WOW!!

Now if I had found it at flea market, antique store etc. with a tagged price so be it, grreat day!! but this is the same as "Pen Hooking" at the cattle yard. Please I hope no one on here did that!! I have gotten 3 nice finds on ebay this year, my KB went for $47 but I had placed a bid up to $200 on it... I was going to bid and sell some timber and maybe a fatted calf or two raise the $$, or liquidate my 1956 n 57 topps sets and be in the game for awhile. guess we will wait and see who slick willie is when he resells.....

Wish I had never seen it now.....

I really hope a forum member did not contact the seller and offer to make a conscious BIN offer for $200...I'm with Murph but think that "unethical" would be an understatement. We'll likely see this glove again at some point, but I hope it's not tonight in the "Today I Found" section.

Wow, unreal, wish I hadn't seen it either now;) I don't feel so bad when they go 10k+, but $200, seriously?? That sucks for that seller bad, I think there would have been some very nice bids on that one!! I agree, I don't think it's right or fair for the rest that are expecting an auction out of it and know they plan to bid at a later time. Just seems to create a lot of an animosity and bad feelings when buyers get sneaky with stuff and end up screwing over their supposed fellow hobby enthusiasts and "friends". Anyway, win some, lose some, it's over and done now, but what an incredible glove to find/pop up and enter the hobby!!
