New baseball glove evolution book and new website- www.vintageballgloves.com

Hi Guys,

I will try and launch a new website at www.vintageballgloves.com this evening. Hopefully it will bring some new people into our glove hobby. I also just finished an expanded edition of my last glove book, with the help of JD. A big thanks goes to JD for his tech help and review work and to my other long time reviewers Joe and Rob and David who assisted on the 1st ed. book, “Baseball Gloves Merge With America’s Past”. The printed version of the expanded books will be very limited unless I get a large order from an organization or store.

The new EXPANDED VERSION of "Baseball Gloves Merge With America's Past" comes in 3 formats (printed book, CD-Book and PDF -Book). The CD-Book and PDF-Book require an Adobe Reader on your computer in order to view the book. My new website www.vintageballgloves.com describes and shares pictures about the expanded edition and how I modified the previous book. I welcome you to check it out. I will discount any of the 3 book formats listed on my website by 2.00 so long as you directly PayPal me and mention you read about the expanded edition on this glove forum. The glove forum discount will be good through 2011.

I will share more info. with you guys in the near future. :D

Hi Okdoak,

Thanks so much for the kind words on the website and the video clip. I had been thinking a website would be cool but just never got around to doing it until now. I am glad Brett has this forum for folks to talk gloves, share images and other glove stuff . Being I only have about 65% of my baseball gloves and about half of my softball gloves posted on JD's website, I decided to res-hoot all the gloves both front and back using a differnt backgrounds and that led to the writing and expanding of this new book. Being I am now retired I had time to redo the book but it is a labor of love. I hate to think how many pics I shot just to make this last book as I probably threw out 5 pics just to get the best shot. LOL I wanted to offer up my first sells to the glove community in case someone wanted to go for a printed version as it is very limited at this time. The CD-book and PDF are the same as the printed book in content and photos but those formats allowed me to make them much more affordable for anyone who has an interest in them.

I had thought my previous book was my last venture in doing a glove book as there really is little profits to offset the time spent doing a book and sometimes there are even losses in such a project. But, after seeing John's cool book and the presentation of his gloves and mitts on the interior gloss pages within his book I decided to give it one more effort using differnt camera techniques and going for the high end printing for the printed books. John and his family did an excellent job with his book and I understand all too well the efforts that went into it. Author to author, as I have said before my hat goes off to John for his cool book. I love books, yet they get more and more expensive to make with the higher end pages used in the printing process. I realize some glovers have nicer gloves than some of mine. But, I gave it my best shot with the hobby money I had to put my collction of gloves together and then into the books. If it doesn't fly so be it but it will not be for lack of trying. Maybe one of our other glovers in our hobby will give a book a try but I got to say for the money , time and risk I put into the book projects a few cool old timer gloves might have been bought instead.

If any of you guys want to exchange website links on your collector links page on your Internet website, just let me know. I figure it will just help bring in more people to our cool hobby.

Thanks again Okdoak. Glad you visited the website too.

Really enjoyed the tour through of your site, and I also like your way of choosing a glove for your collection. You base your decision on uniqueness and what appeals to you, rather than based on the "collectors trend." 8)

Truly a glove site for the glove fan....... Again great job!!!!

Hi Duane,

Thanks so much for visiting my website. You are correct in that I focused my collecting interests on baseball glove evolution and even if an old glove had little value to some collectors (due to not being a hof endorsement ,etc.) it became an important part of my collection due to the unique glove and web style. Some of the glove and web styles in my collection were not real pricey at the time I picked them up and others took quite a chunk out of my glove hobby budget . However, my goal was to add every different glove style and web style into my collection which would then reflect the diversity that glove makers used over the decades in producing the vintage gloves. A few of the gloves seem to be one of a kind web or glove style (at least I have not seen others like them and I have monitered the gloves for many years) and others may have had a hand-full or less to show up over the years. Uniqueness has become a big part of this collection and what makes it more unique is they are not scattered among many collectors in the hobby but are all in one collection under one roof in one room, my den. LOL With the spin of a desk chair I see more than 150 different baseball and softball gloves, in glove lofts in my den. It is a trip to the museum without leaving my chair. :)

I hope the new glove book formats work for all kinds of folks to get interested in our hobby. I love the printed book and I realize many folks want to have one for their resource library. But, this morning I sent a glove collector in Canada a PDF file book for 2.99 using our glove forum discount. He had bought my last printed book so this PDF-Book brings him completely up- to -speed with my newest book. He got the 110 + pages of this PDF book for less than what it cost me to send a printed book in USPS mail. I mail this new printed book, which weighs over a one pound, vis USPS priority flat rate mail and it cost 4.95 for me to mail it in the US. So, maybe technology will continue to help us with info. getting out about our glove hobby in more affordable ways . This cool forum of Brett's and JD's website are further examples of technology at work in our glove hobby.

Duane thanks again for your words of encouragement.

No problem, but were the ones that should be saying "thank you." 8) And also to the site owners of VintageBaseball and Glove-Works forums who also make it possible for glove-heads like ourselves to talk about gloves on so many different subject levels.

Duane,

The glove forums are a great way to share our hobby with each other. Kudos goes to Brett Lowman who has this vintage forum and Mike Wakefield (glove-works) who has another cool glove forum. I recognixzed both of these gentlemen in this last glove book for their efforts within our hobby. It would be my hopes we all support each other in this hobby and maybe the efforts will help the hobby to grow. I purposely tried to go with 3 different book formats with this last book so we might be able to attract just about anyone who has an interest in the old gloves to have a chance at getting a book with useful information about glove evolution and to lead them further into our hobby by having a lot of cool pics too boot. If someone mentions to me they read about this last book on a glove forum they can get the PDF-Book for less than one gallon of gas at todays price. Within the PDF-Book (and my other book versions) is listed several veteran glove collector websites and hopefully it brings more interests to the hobby and offers a jump start for their collecting interest.

Time will tell.

Happy glove hunting.
