A few weeks ago I stated that I would be attempting to customize one of my Rawlings OR 520 Dale Murphy gloves. I wanted to document the process with photos. However, once I dug into the glove, I saw that I did not want to take pictures of a disemboweled glove. It was just too painful to see!
But good news, fellas! I finished the glove, and am posting the before and after pics for your perusal.
First of all, some things that I learned:
1. Do things methodically and carefully. When I got in a hurry, I inevitably messed up the re-lacing and had to start over.
2. If you do mess up, it is OK to start over. In fact, it is better to start over than to have a mistake in your glove.
3. Louisville Slugger laces are great, but they are thicker than Rawlings laces, and there is a reason that Rawlings gloves use Rawlings laces. I had a hard time fitting the bigger laces through some of the holes in the glove.
4. If your girlfriend tells you she likes chocolate brown laces because they are prettier than the black ones, she is right. Listen to her.
5. You can add padding the the palm of the glove but it is somewhat of a pain. Make sure you get it where you want it before you lace the glove back up!
6. Old running shoe insoles make great glove padding!
7. Extra padding, and tighter, thicker stronger laces will help a glove regain its shape and keep it.
