How do you recreate the rolled laces from the 40's

Postby czog32 » January 12th, 2009, 2:14 pm

I am looking for direction on how to relace a gloves webbing using the rolled lace technique. If possible a diagram would be super. Please let me know of any tips and thanks for your efforts.

Not sure if this is the type you wanted to do. If it is I can email a drawing to get you started. My attempt is probably a bit bigger and definitely not as professional as the original Rawlings web from back in the day. Anyway, let me know through the forum or PM.

rolled lace web

Postby okdoak » January 16th, 2009, 8:35 pm

Thought I'd post pics for anyone who's interested. I can add some text if the pics alone aren't enough to get you started, just let me know. This is my fourth one and no two have turned out the same. Lots of trial and (mostly) error.

Forgot to add that JD's website has pictures of the real deal; Rawlings RR and KK with rolled lace webs. Definitely worthwhile to take a good look at those!

I agree. It's a lot of trial and error. Just get started and see how it turns out. You can always un-roll and start over.

Original Rolled lace close ups

Postby swalt1234 » January 18th, 2009, 6:00 pm

Here are close-ups of those Original Rolled lace gloves KK and RR I have on JDs site. The RR Rolfe was a more quality model so had all leather laces. The KK Keltner was lower quality and they wound leather laces around a type of shoestring. Hope this adds to the other excellent posts.

original rolled lace webs

Thanks for posting the pics of your gloves, Mark! I didn't know that a KK with that type of web existed until I saw yours on JD's website. If you have a spare of either model just lying around I know of a collector (me) who is interested! Greg
