My 10-year old son relaces his first glove!

Postby rmiller » September 1st, 2008, 12:54 am

Over the past few weeks, my son Tennyson has been telling me he wants to learn how to lace gloves. Yesterday, we dug through some boxes of gloves I have acquired over the years from various places. He found this Rawlings kids glove, and decided to work on it.

He did most of the work- I helped. The only thing he didn’t do was the wrist strap- I took care of that. Other than that, it was him doing the work with me helping as needed. When he was struggling I would ask if he wanted help as I reached for the glove, he would pull it away, saying, “No dad, I can do it!” Half the time, he would ask for help a minute later, but the other half he struggled through it, and did it on his own.

He decided on the dark blue lace, so we went with that. It was a good weekend- lacing a glove with my son while watching my alma mater beat Michigan. He’s excited to do another one.

My wife took several pictures:

Give us the gate key. I have no gate key.
Fezzik, tear his arms off. Oh, you mean this gate key!

That looks awesome! He did a great job...much better than I did on my first relacing attempt this weekend. :D
Alas, my glove is better than my game.

Great job! Glad to see your son's enthusiasm, especially at his age. Both my son's were teenagers when I started re-lacing gloves, and they would just leave the room when I would begin a new project. :)

Just awesome!
