Has anybody slid their hand into an Eagle?

I have two Eagle gloves, made in Canada. I suppose the company is best known for their quality hockey gear. Their baseball/softball gloves are some of the highest quality gloves that I've ever seen. Quality leather cut into well designed patterns. Their laces are the very best, never saw anything like them before. And, they're beautifully made and real eye- candy for the glove connoisseur in us all... I have an 11.5" that utilizes a laceless palm & a 12.5" that is also a very nice glove. I suppose a modern day criticism would be that they are substantial to a point of being a bit heavier than modern kip gloves... The break-in may take a tad longer too. I bought my two on Ebay for less than retail, but if you go to the website they're $285+ gloves, and well worth it. The break is perfect and the pocket gradually widens from the break to the webbing. My models are not the bowl style pocket types, they're longer with a well-defined catching area that encourages the use of the webbing. I like them both. The catcher's mitts are well made also, but run a bit on the small side. Their claimed 33" circumference is closer to an actual 31". Check Eagle out & let me know what you think.
To hell with the expression "You don't really know a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes" How about- "... until you've caught nine innings using his mitt!" A bit more accurate, don't you think?

I am mad at myself!

I passed up a used Eagle glove about a month ago on ebay. I thought it looked like a very well made glove at the time, and it was at a decent price. I just had to decide between it and another Rawlings I really wanted. Well, I got the Rawlings, and the Eagle went for a higher price than I was really willing to pay for an unknown glove  I just was not sure about the brand at the time and did not research it much.

Now, hearing what you say, I am kinda regretting missing out on the glove.
Yes, I still have my first glove.

I purchased and eagle probably 2 years ago. I purchased a 11 1/2 inch with modified trapeze (similar to the cosmetic look of the pros15ja). At first I thought it was a good idea to venture out and get a glove outside of the big brands. The positives are: glove looked great from the online pictures (not bad in person), it has slim finger stalls great for those with thin fingers, the leather is nice and thick, surprisingly the glove is light, has long laces, also the glove breaks in easy. The negatives: although it looked cool the craftsmanship is sub par (stitching is allover the place), the glove is designed very weird the pocket is really flat, the fingers are designed to go forward similar to the A3000 (really hate that) this minimizes the catching surface, due to the design and the shallow pocket this was a very uncomfortable glove. Overall in my opinion it has its positive but the glove fails in the most important features so I disliked it.

Eagle Gloves

Postby doubleSwitch » October 9th, 2007, 2:49 pm

I called Eagle today because i was interested in the Vintage style BG10.75 infield glove. They informed me that they no longer make Baseball gloves do to Labour problems in Montreal. They moved their centre of operations to London Ontario and are only making hockey equipment. I also know a few OHL players that have used Eagle Hockey gloves and all told me they were of the highest quality. Do to Contract obligations though the OHL players are only allowed to use CCM equipment. No kidding here!! I was also told that they have their mums sew on the CCM labels over their Nike Hockey gloves !! Hmmm where have we heard that before??

One of the nicest gloves in my collection is a late 1930's EAGLE LEATHER WORKS, Montreal, buckleback model with a double horizontal tunnel web. The high quality leather is blond/tan in color and the interior leather is the finest I've ever seen. It is very large and is in near mint condition. Was wondering if this is the same EAGLE company you are discussing?

Eagle

I believe that the Eagle company that currently produces glove is a fairly young company (Founded in 1997).

Eagle is a manufacturer of hockey equipment. They make very high quality hockey gloves, as well as goalie leg pads and goalie gloves.

Their hockey gloves have been featured on the TV show "How It's Made"

I heard that the Eagle hockey group was started by some former employees of Vaughn, which is a large goalie gear manufacturer in Canada and the US.

I believe that Eale is relatively new to baseball glove manufacturing.
