What is this PRO A2000?

Postby oakfan33 » December 27th, 2008, 6:57 pm

I was at a used sporting goods store today and found this glove laying on the ground. I almost didn't even pick it up but when I did, I saw it was this model glove. It's a PRO A2000 model PRO PS-4. Made in Japan, looks new, just looks to have been handled around someplace. Anybody have any information on the glove? Thanks

Looks pretty interesting. Like the hinge at the wrist and the welting on the back. But why do we have to put velcro on gloves!

WILSON PS-4

Postby akmike » December 31st, 2008, 6:55 pm

The A2000 PS-4 is an awesome glove design. I was able to find one through a Wilson rep years ago. It is/was the choice of John Smoltz & Jeff Brantley. I have a black leather USA model.

Happy New Year!

Great gloves for sure...and the only ones with velcro allowed in the barn.

Wilson Pro A2000 - PS4

Postby etd » January 3rd, 2009, 9:09 pm

I have the exact same glove as oakfan33. It is a 1992 model glove. I bought my Pro PS4 at Herman's Sporting Goods in New York in Summer 1992 for $60 (they were having a 40% off sale on Wilson A2000 gloves - the original price was $100). I have used the glove for outfield in baseball and infield in softball. I am happy to say that my glove is in the same condition as oakfan33's glove.

Used my Pro A 2000 for just a few seasons

Postby etd » January 3rd, 2009, 11:22 pm

I retired my Pro A 2000 after the 1996 season which was the last season I played organized adult baseball (NABA). It was replaced by an SSK Pro 2500. The Pro A 2000 was my secondary glove for baseball as I played more infield than outfield (I was one of those utility men..competent at many positions, but master of none...oh well...I just enjoyed playing)

I prefer my gloves on the stiff side so I do replace them every few years. I do maintain the old ones I keep.

These days if I were to play baseball again, I probably would have to do a lot of DHing or play 1st Base. Shoulder injuries have caught up to me over the years. I do have a early 90s Made in Japan Mizuno WorldWin 1st base glove that I picked up new for $10 in the late 90s at a Champs Sporting Goods outlet store (this was when Champs was a full line sporting goods shop). It would make a great gamer.
