Could anyone give me any information on a Rawlings Mickey Mantle Heart of the Hide XPG-H. Value? Rarity(compared to other models)?

Thanks, Josh

Josh, I know there are people with more knowledge here on Mantles but the H is one of the rarer models and commands a premium - I saw the one you picked up and it looks to be in excellent shape - you should be able to get probably 8 to 10x what you paid for it at least.

on Mantle gloves, Denny Eskin is in Vegas at the baseball meetings if anyone is there and wants to see his glove or talk to him about Mantles gloves. Does no good to ask me I have no knowledge on his gloves and see on reason for 2 of us to be pro's Just like my mistakes, there is no need for me to remember them as my wife does...

Brett-

Thanks for the info. Dad and I noticed that there wasn't any other models that resembled this one on JD's site so we were thinking it may have been a tougher model. Looks like we got lucky. That doesn't happen often. Now only if it could happen that way for a crescent  .

Thanks, Josh

Mantle I Web XPG-H

Postby doubleSwitch » December 8th, 2008, 9:00 pm

Bravosin99,
Nice pickup ! Did you ask her to put a "Buy it now" on the auction? If it were me, I would feel guilty about getting this glove for so cheap. I was just wondering because the rest of her auctions are running without "Buy it nows" I think this is probably the best pickup I've seen regarding a glove. The next one would have been when Speedrunr bought that mint Mantle MM glove a few months back for a "buy it now"
for $50.00 bones and ReBay'd for over $500.00.....Nice glove Bravo....
It's a keeper for sure....

No I did not ask to end the auction early. I usually do not even look at gloves on ebay that are past 1940's but have done pretty well selling the more modern stuff that I find lately. With that being said I saw the glove was just listed and that it was a Mantle and kinda knew those usually brought higher bids. When I clicked on the auction I noticed the glove was a heart of the hide, which did not appear in the listing, and thought to myself wow this glove probably sold for more than this when it was actually offered for sale in the 60's.

So I didn't even hit the buy it now right away. I went and asked dad what he thought and we even questioned the glove because we really have no idea what it is worth and still really don't. We did some searching and found no similar models so we thought it may be a more rare model. I guess now we can see from peoples nice comments along with the ones from members who thought I should feel guilty for getting such a good deal that it really is a good pick up. Can't someone get a lucky buy it now?

Ill post pics when the glove comes.

Thanks, Josh

That glove is worth at least $1000. Only the second one I have seen on ebay in the last 5 years and it was a lefty and sold for over $700 then. Great buy!

Here are some photos of the glove. Shows little use and feels good on the hand. Haven't cleaned it at all but I am sure it will look even better then it already does when it is cleaned. Probably leave it the way it is for now.
