Synthetic glove question

Postby Paulypal » October 8th, 2008, 3:28 pm

In reading the board for a while, and some other place I notice that semi- synthetic gloves may be the next wave because of performance.

With that said why not fully synthetic like Carpenter gloves? According to their website the gloves are 10 ounces lighter than all leather, and they have some ball deadening material in the pocket.

An earlier comment posted somewhere in this forum indicated that MLB rules stipulate a leather glove. Assuming that is correct you may be able to get a synthetic back past the ordinance but probably not a synthetic front where the ball comes in contact with the glove/mitt.
