Best size gloves for softball?

Postby Paulypal » September 23rd, 2008, 12:37 pm

I know its a matter of personal feel but in your opinion what is the best size gloves for softball.

Currently I am using a Glovesmith Custom Elite for both infield/outfield. the infield is 12.5 and the outfield is 12.75. Although they are both cut a little bigger.

I am considering going to a Rawlings Pro-RV23 12.25 and a Pro-H 12.75 for both positions.

I personally use a 13" Easton for any postion. I love this size, and I feel like the bigger the glove the better, because you surely can't "lose" a softball in a glove like you can a baseball.

For comparisons sake, I use a 11.5 inch for infield in baseball, and a 12.5 for outfield.

Depending on where you play. I use a 12" when I play second and a 12.5 in left center.

I played mostly third base, occasionally shortstop or outfield 30 years; used (all Rawlings HOH): TG-12 (12", 1960) from 1975-1885, PRO-3 1985-2007, PRO-24 12 3/4" sometimes 2005-2007. I still feel a little better with PRO-3 at third or short, and 2004 PRO-24 at first base. My 2006 PRO12XC 12" I haven't used in a game. Of course when I started bats were wooden....My 17 year old daughter uses a PRO-T at third base in club fastpitch; it's a little smaller than the PRO-24, larger than TG-12 or PRO12XC. But she's more talented than I was, looking like she'll get college scholarship...

I only play softball, and also play mostly third base and a little outfield. I use a 13" Nokona AMG650BF for both positions, it's the most versatile glove for me. I have been breaking in various 12.75" models at third, Glovesmith Elite, Rawlings TB24, Nokona AMG1275MT, and my custom Rawlings PRO1275F, which will become my gamer once it's broken in. I am gravitating to the larger gloves as I am getting older, and the reflexes aren't what they used to be. :)
