Rawlings Gold Patch Questions

What can you guys tell me about HOH gloves that have the red patch sewn over a gold leather patch? Was this done as a celebration of a milestone? How many years did this go on?

I have a PRO DC with this patch, and I bought the mitt new in 1989. However I don't know why the gold leather under the red patch
