Public Pro Issues

Postby Hrking4675 » July 2nd, 2008, 12:19 am

Ok so I am not 100% positive, but this makes my theory even closer to being true. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rawlings-Pro-Prefer ... dZViewItem
Is being sold by Splinters and is a sweet glove with what would usually be a PRO ISSUE thanks to the "K" notation and since we all know thats not a stock model. However, that glove has tags attached and the "PRO" denotation at the end of the model number. Splinters, can you confirm that this is a store model? Possibly from a Chicks Sporting Goods on the west coast?

rare glove

Postby glovefan » July 2nd, 2008, 1:33 am

when i saw this glove i was reminded of a glove that kinda stood out to me when i went to a chicks on the west coast. i checked it out and was suprised because i though the gloves with k model numbers could not be found in stores. Thats the same exact model glove i saw in chicks but im sure its still really rare.

I have the same glove - except I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the PRO at the end of the model number. Bought it on Ebay from a college or minor league player...

I'm pretty sure the Pro on the end sets it up as a possible pro glove. The K only means it was Kip leather, we had that on all of them the first year. And some ball players might have wanted the K after that. The K is for Kip leather which the Pro prefered were made of that year. My guess is after establishing the cream color most good leathers would work with out killing all the calf's to get real kip. gotta watch for the SPCA I would guess ( just a joke there ha)

Hi Doc,

We have had discussions regarding ProShop gloves previously and we know the K stands for Kip... 99% of the Pro Preferred gloves out there don't have the K and are all Kip Leather... So I'm confused... We have only seen the K on Pro Gloves... I have not seen early Pro Preferred gloves with the K.

Pro Issue Kip leather gloves have always or at least the last 4 years have the K. Models for the public have generic model numbers disregarding the 'K.' I think this is because Pro's can order any model they want in whatever leather they desire. The 'K' indicates that so their glove can be produced with that kip leather and shows it in the model number. The public cannot order any model custom, so there is really no reason to do so.
