Phillies Gamer Gloves

Interesting article I came across today showing their starters' gamers. Surprised so few Rawlings are there.

Great find I love up close pics of these pro issued gloves. Favorite has to be the pedro feliz, love tan infield gloves. Second utley's (had no idea he used a protroy glove). Third Rollins has a really nice Nike one I love the backing of it (colors are great). Jenkins and Victorino are nice too. Damn I just like them all.

Looks like Ryan Howard switched from Rawlings to Addidas... dissapointing.

I wondered about the switch at the beginning of the season. That make alot of sense about the shoe deal. Howard is full adidas gear. From Under armour batting gloves to adidas and from rawlings to adidas as well. He had always worn adidas cleats.

Cool article. Chase Utley's glove looks like the classic 2nd basemen's glove. Broke in REAL GOOD but not ragged out. Probably cry like a baby if anything ever happened to it. It sure is serving him well this season (good for me, I've got him on my fantasy team).

Thanks for posting.

As for Howard, all the Dick's mailings have him geared up in all the Addidas stuff. You could tell they must have stroked a hefty endorsement there.

Anyone notice the awkward thumb on Rollins' glove. Look how little heel lacing there is and that massive elongated thumb with the welting.

The awkard thumb can be due to how Nike didn't use the traditional pattern of glove. The backing of the glove is built in two pieces (three with the web). It has an isolated wrist strap (open bacK).

I really like the look of it.

I believe the adidas gloves at dicks are a private label/SMU product--dick's just sources them from the cheapest place they can find and pays Adidas a royalty of 5-7%--and it will be the highest margin product in that department--they are doing the same thing with the Slazenger name (in the golf dept) and several others thru the store

Adidas First Base Mitts

Postby Cowboy7130 » June 3rd, 2008, 12:35 am

When the pic came out in spring training of Ryan Howard using an "adidas" first base mitt, I did a quick web search. I found several retail outlets, including Dick's online, that had adidas gloves, but nowhere could I find an adidas mitt. I concluded, as did several on this forum, that Howard's "adidas" first base mitt was in reality a modified Rawlings, albeit more professionally modified than Giambi's TPX Frankenstein.
Yes, I still have my first glove.

Because it feeds into the perception (amongst Phillies Phans) that Howard is strictly about the $$. He had a contentious off season over salary arbritation (not entirely his fault). And at the beginning of the season, when he was asked about how he feels about being with the Phillies long term, he stated something to the effect thet it wasn't up to him, it was strictly between his agent and the team. It's ENTIRELY up to him as to wether he wants to sign with the team long term. Take Mike Schmidt for example, he could have signed elswhere for more $$ but chose to give the Phillies the "hometown discount" and play out his entire career there. This despite the fact that the Phillies fan base often didn't deserve someone of his talent (he was often mercilessly booed during slumps).

Back to Howard, so far he's not earning that 10 million, awful in the field, and it seems he refuses to listen to any advice about his approach at the plate.

Just signed shoe/glove contract

Postby softball66 » June 3rd, 2008, 6:32 pm

I just signed a honey of a deal that combines shoe and glove in the same contract. My agent Jock Shoehorn helped me with it. I will playing with a Florsheim next week. I'm dropping my U S Keds contract.
I say if the shoe and the glove fit, wear 'em.
