Louisville Glove Pictures

These are kind of a neat looking gloves from Louisville: I really like the old school holdster "slit" instead of the "slot."

It looks like nylon gloves are making a comeback. I think A-Rod's glove is now part nylon as well. I still have a Regent glove from the late 80's that is half nylon. All of the stamping is gone but I can still snag a liner with it.

I am a diehard Sox fan who lived in the Cleveland area in the mid 90's and enjoyed watching the Tribe play.

It's weird to see a picture of Julian Taverez where he's NOT CRYING.
Aim for the corners and let the middle take care of itself.

Here are some Louisville pics from Ervin Santana:

You don't see too many pitchures change up the pattern of the glove they use very often. I especially like seeing pitchers use the trapeze web. A timeless and classic look. Louisville is definitely using Rawlings patterns but I like the way they are using nylon on their gloves. They probably do this more than any other brand out there.

I just how I feel about the nylon though....it cannot be good for glove structure...

Those new TPX Flare gloves are great though, if only they made one that was all tan with an H-web!

Interesting ...

... on those leather TPX gloves it appears that the finger hood for the index finger is placed behind the middle finger of the glove, rather than the index finger. I know some pitchers place their index finger in the middle slot, the middle finger in the ring slot, and the ring and pinky fingers in the pinky slot, to give themselve a wide pocket. This is the first time I have seen the finger hood moved, too.
Yes, I still have my first glove.

I have a Regent glove from the 80's that also has a nylon exterior and it has held up pretty well. I think the padding has more to do with how floppy a glove is rather than the material it's made from. I've seen leather gloves that are pretty soft. I think that's why they use plastic to reinforce the thumb and pinkie.

The hood placement on Santana's glove is rare. I also like to double stack my pinkie and ring finger for the same reason plus it feels comfortable to me. I believe outfielders do this more than infielders/pitchers but I know that David Wright does it as well. I actually saw a Mizuno glove for sale on eBay a while back with the finger padding placed over the middle finger. Pretty cool feature.

I like the long pockets on the TPX flares but I have yet to put one on. I'm sure it feels great.

Here's a good shot of Wright showing his finger placement.

i had a Mizuno with a mesh back that was the most comfortable and lightest glove I've ever had. But it got so flimsy that if you caught a ball on the run it would fall out because it flopped so much. I finally traded it at PIAS for a HOH with a modified trap.

BrotherRay, thanks for posting about the finger positions. I had tried it and liked it with outfield gloves but never for infield... Last night I played catch in the backyard with a glove I'm starting to break in and was noticing that there is a slight "bump" in the pocket right over the ring finger slot. I think what is happening is - from trying to close a glove that is not broken in, the pressure from the ring finger is causing a slight bulge in the pocket on the other side... One solution could be to go with 2 fingers in the pinkie slot. The middle finger would end up in the ring slot but still - I think the pocket could be formed a little better and the closing pressure from the ring/pinkie fingers would be moved lower down. I'll make the pinkie loop bigger to fit 2 fingers and give it a try.

Let me know if it works. Wright is the first infielder besides a pitcher that I've seen do this with his fingers.

I'm going to start a new thread on how folks place their fingers in glove.

Tried the 2 fingers in the pinkie slot last night. It was okay at first but then my son started firing them back and it starting hurting my palm! I went back to my normal mode for the fingers ( index finger out) where I leave a gap between my palm and the glove. Doing it this way you can "palm" 80 mile an hour fast balls with no sting. You sort of "cup" your hand. This worKs well when the glove is on the smaller side ( or if you have a large hand!). You see guys in the majors, mostly MIF with the glove half off their hands doing this!
