Mizuno World Win Question

Postby sdabl53 » April 12th, 2008, 11:44 pm

I just bought a gorgeous new World Win V MWV-120 dark blue 12.5" baseball glove. Doeos anybody have any idea it's value and when was it made. Sure would like to get info on older model numbers of modern day gloves like Rawlings and Mizuno.

Thanks for any info!

Probably made in the 90's. Worth around $150 - unless there is a few bidders interested who end up raising the price on Ebay. I think Japan MWV World Wins are among the best gloves ever made.

Mike.

BTW: That is a SMALL picture - sort of "thumbnail" size... How about a few nice full resolution pics of that beauty!

Thanks for getting back to me Mike. I noticed you have a very nice collection of World Wins. I agree with you as far as the workmanship and quality.

I will post more big photos of this glove after my busy weekend!

Wow, can barely buy a new Rawlings HOH for $150.00! Pro-Preferreds run in the mid $200.00 new. Think I might make this glove my new outfield gamer.

World Win Gloves

Postby GloveGypsy » April 13th, 2008, 8:19 am

I agree, Mizuno World Win gloves are underrated. Most of the vintage collectors that I know grew up with Rawlings and Wilson gloves on their hands, so their affection for those gloves is based on some nostalgia.

I have always liked the Mizuno WW's and think their appreciation is worthy.

Watching the eBay auctions, I see some used WW's go off at surprisingly low final bids.

The World Wins are light, strong and will shape to your hand very well. So if you're actually using the glove to field baseballs you will have a hard time finding a better glove - I'm still looking... Regarding price - Rawling Primos are $400 but IMO - they don't measure up to World Wins regarding functionality (too heavy).

GloveGypsy - I agree you can pick them up for less than what they are worth. Very few people know what they are...

The reason I have stayed away from the Mizuno World Win gloves is that that there appears to be a tremendous amount of variance in the quality of the gloves. The glove that GloveGypsy displays in the Salz Leather thread is magnificent, any modern glove guy would love to own gloves like that. But if you do a search in ebay for Mizuno World Win you find gloves that appear to be much lower quality - almost as if Mizuno decided to make the World Win line an entry level line.

ChicagoRedSoxFan,

The new World Wins are CRAP! I thought that was understood but it's a good thing you bring it up! The new ones start with GWW... stay away!!!

On Ebay right now, the only older World Win I see is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mizuno-Pro-World-Wi ... dZViewItem

He says mid-90s but I think it is older... I have a later version of that glove that starts with MWV ( I believe GIC models are older). It is a small glove and can only be used at 2nd base or for a youngster playing little league. But the price on that one right now is $14! That glove was $200 20 years ago!

One more thought on these current World Wins....... I agree, they seem to an inferior version of the real McCoys.

The leather looks cheaper, like one of those "easily broken-in" pieces of junk that will only last a season and a half.

I say the cheapest ticket is a first class one. Buy the real thing, not some knock off or some MBA's idea of watering a great brand to make an extra.0454% profit margin for his corporation, so the fat-assed execs can get this quarter's $4 million bonus.

World Win

I don’t think Mizuno is trying to increase margins by decreasing the quality of the World Win. It seems like they just didn’t have the same respect for their World Win name as some of us.

I think they were moderately successful with the World Win for a number of years and then they hit big with their Vintage and Classic gloves because they were the first with oiled brown leather. These softer gloves became their focus because in no time they out sold the World Win.

Then the Mizuno Pros came out as the first really high dollar glove and they probable wanted a new name to help with the wow factor. I don’t even think they manufactured World Win’s for a couple years and then someone slapped World Win on some lower end gloves probable because there was some tradition with the name & companies seem to be running out of decent names.
