Back about two or three years ago, the rulesmakers for high school baseball (the NFHS) changed their equipment rules regarding gloves and, in particular, pitcher's gloves.

Their new rule outlawed any white material on the pitcher's glove- even a few white threads in the glove's logo. While enforcement of this rule might be uneven- some areas are lax about it and others are anal- it did spur many high school pitchers to take magic markers to their gloves, to color in any white portions.

As a high school umpire, I thought the rule was a little bit overboard. Can you really consider a few white threads in a Rawlings logo as distracting to a batter?

As a glove collector, the thought of taking magic marker to glove was appalling!
