Jake Peavy Glove

Postby splinters » April 1st, 2008, 8:52 am

DocGlove or anyone else:

What model glove is Jake Peavy using?
-Rawlings custom modified Primo Glove?
-Rawlings custom HOH ox-blood with ox-blood welting?
-Rawlings custom pro preferred ox blood?

Any good photos?

thanks, Matt

Peavy is one of the few ML guys using the Primo. Barry Zito is another.

It is not a primo, it has the gold glove company tag on the back, I still think its a custom ox blood, google his name, you get some good photos

it is definitely custom, looks like a custom ox blood HOH, for both Zito and Peavy....It was first reported that Peavy and Zito were using Primos about 8 months ago, but I read a follow up article saying that was incorrect and they were not Primos.

Bob...any info on the Peavy or Zito gloves?

I've seen hundreds of photos of Peavy with his glove and I agree that his glove is different from the Primo's available to us mere mortals. But I read the article below and pulled the following quote:

http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/23/news/fu ... /index.htm

"The Primo so far has found love only from the Padres' Jake Peavy, the San Francisco Giants' Barry Zito, and the Seattle Mariners' Horacio Ramirez. All of them are pitchers, who are traditionally the least attached to their gloves."

I guess it's possible that he has a Custom Primo or it's maybe it's not a Primo at all.

It's a really though call I have not seen any of the two gloves (new hoh oxblood or primo) in person. Could be a custom primo leather manufactured as reagular hoh would.

here is a link of some upclose pictures I wasn't able to post.

i'd be willing to gamble that it's a custom oxblood HOH or pro preferred. although it appears to have the white stitching, i don't see the characteristic primo criss-cross stitching on the back of the thumb and pinky

I saw an Ox Blood (PRONP3P) last week, from about 6 inches, James Darnell, Inf for U. of South Carolina. (side note, real nice kid had 2 3 homer games within a month, too bad it wasn't the night I took my son). It's a lot like the color in the picture. The primo's seem to be more brown than red in tint

its is definetly a custom oxblood, I have the model closest to it, and they are similar, primos don not have the gold glove logo on the pinkie, and the tag is embroiderd right into the glove

lemonball: I read that article you posted when it came out....I also read a follow up article somewhere that said the article was incorrect and that it was not a primo that peavy and zito were using and that no MLB players are using it. i wish I could find it. I have done a few google searches but have not found it yet.

After spending the morning reviewing images of both Zito and Peavy, I must agree that they are NOT using Primos.

Which makes me wonder why I even care? :)

Cause, your are like the rest of us and can't let it go. LOL. Nice piece of detective work. I am glad some of y'all went to the trouble to find the images. This freed up my afternoon to actually work at the job I get paid for. Have an awesome day!
