Looking for input

Postby SF Ball Dad » January 28th, 2008, 12:55 pm

Not exactly a vintage glove question but I figured no one would know more about this stuff than you guys.

I'm looking to order a custom 11-1/2" single post rawlings glove in the near future. I've seen photos of PRO 200-1 and AK2 models. What are the differences between these gloves? Are there any others that I should be considering too?

Thanks for your help!

I'm going to move this to the Modern Glove discussion section where you should get lots of helpful information.

What position do you play? At 2b or SS you may want a flat pocket glove. It will facilitate faster glove-hand transfer of the ball. The custom form on HQ4Sports lets you specifiy "flat" and "medium-deep" pocket for Rawlings INF gloves.

It's actually for my son. (SS/2B). His PROS15T (11-1/2" modified trap) is beat and is looking for a single post to replace it. He's saved enough to get himself a new HOH custom so I figured I'd chip in to get him Pro Preferred custom.

Cool! Try HQ4Sports. They gave me really great service on a couple of Rawlings custom gloves right before Christmas. The flat/deep pocket option is only available for the 11.25" glove. I used an 11.25" Akadema I web a couple seasons back when I played 2nd occasionally. It has a flat pocket that I thought was awesome for fielding groundballs. I imagine that the Rawlings pattern is similar. Otherwise, I am sure that the 11.5" single post will be a great glove too.

Tell your son to have fun and play hard.

[actually his current Pros15t is the 200 pattern so you will know the glove if you were to choose the rawlings. I'm not sure what the Ackadema looks like but its hard imagine it being far from the Rawlings Pattern. Could put a single post in his old one, not that hard

Anyone familiar with Rawlings single post models?

Postby SF Ball Dad » January 29th, 2008, 10:09 pm

Thanks for your help. He's definitely a Rawlings guy though and is specifically looking to get a single post web. His current glove is starting to develop a tear between the index and middle fingers so swapping out the web is probably not an option (plus it's a few years old and he's looking forward to a new glove).

Anyone familiar with Rawlings single post models and their differences?

I know you said he is a Rawlings guy...but....I also played second base in high school and I used an 11" "single post web" jet black Guerrero glove....I have used two of them through out my playing years and LOVED them...might be worth a try??? Pretty cheap, Im pretty sure they run right around $100 if I remember right.....Josh

I would look at Don Morton's website: http://www.ballgloves.com/cgi-local/heartofhide.pl

Took a quick look and there was a nice tan 12" single post but fastback... I would look for an open back 11.5" tan HOH. You could always call them they are nice folks...

Thank Mike, if only it were that easy. That's pretty much exactly what he's looking for but can't live with that color.

I am very interested in ordering one of these gloves for my son. After looking at the eastbay catalog, I have a few questions that maybe you can help me with.

If you choose not to have a name emb on the thumb, will "Rawlings" be scripted on the thumb? If not, can you request that "Rawlings" be scripted on the thumb?

Can you choose a color for the lining or will it be camel or black depending on the leather color?

Can you add a palm pad?

Is it ok to go ahead and place an order through eastbay or should we wait until all of the paper work issues have been resolved?

Thanks for your time and input.

golfswing,

That is a nice glove you are selling on Ebay. Can I ask why you are selling it?
