Should I be concerned?

Postby dsb » August 16th, 2008, 11:37 am

I saw on another thread that someone was having problems with their glove tearing at the base of the fingers... So I looked at mine. It appears that at the base of the second finger the leather is pulling away from the welting. The pulls are very small, but the glove is only 2 weeks old and not even broken in yet. Is this something that I should be concerned with?

Thanks,
Dave

From the looks of it, I think you're ok. But I would follow the same advice docglov gave me, and oil those areas well. Whether the rest of the glove needs it or not.

Docglov says those areas are extremely difficult to sew, and some separation is normal and to be expected. It does not affect the performance or the feel of the glove, and it should not expand any further than yours already has. You may want to get a little extra conditioner in those crevices, though, just to keep those areas extra-soft and pliable.

There was another thread a few months ago about the same issue. You might do a little searching to find more info. Good luck!

When talking about oiling these areas do you use an oil like glovolium or will lexol work just as well?

I wouldn't use glovolium. Lexol or pure lanolin will work well. Others swear by pure petroleum jelly. I've used that as well and have suffered no ill effects from it, but I lean towards Lexol these days.

I emailed that Pic to Nokona and they want to inspect the glove, so we'll see what they have to say...

I got this e-mail from Patti in repairs at Nokona today:

"Hi there, I don't have another in stock like this sandstone leather BUT I DO have a walnut which is the darker leather. IF you want this I can ship it today other wise we'll have to wait for another to be made in about 6-8 weeks. Please let me know. Patti (repairs) 800-433-0957"

I hope that my inference is wrong, but what I get from that is they consider the gloves equivalent... I haven't been able to reach her yet, but I'm hoping that's not the only option.

Aim for the corners and let the middle take care of itself.

Well... After talking with Patti in repairs, the walnut is the only replacement they'll offer. That or wait 6-8 weeks for another sandstone... There seems to be something up with the sandstone models, one online store has dropped the price $40 (they're now cheaper than the walnut), and Don Morton only has one or two...

The replacement came today... I'm really disappointed... Had I seen this glove in person I never would have bought it... In addition to the aesthetics, the glove is _small_ ... It's marked as an 1150 (11 1/2 inches) but by my tape it's barely 11 inches, I have to work to get my hand in it...

Fortunately I'm still within the return policy at DMS... I'm thinking I'll exchange it for a Pro 1MTC or a Pro 12TC, any recomendations?

I've noticed a bunch of Sandstone hitting eBay lately too.

I just purchased an 1150KMT Kangaroo/Walnut combo so I'm hoping it's not as small as you said yours was.

I wanted to get one in Sandstone too but even with $40 off it's not worth the risk.

For what my opinion is worth the Pro1MTC is a sick glove. Almost looks too good to use.

I tried on a buffalo amg1200 the other day and it looked more like an 11 1/2 than a 12. It was definately smaller than my amg175, which is supposed to be 12"

i am guessing that the sandstones are being discounted because in the new nokona 2009 catalogue there are no sandstone only gloves. the only way sandstone appears is in combination with walnut.

My Nokona gloves are on the small side... You asked for advice... I have a lot of gloves and one of my son's favorite I bought at DMS:

this is a beautiful glove and also very functional - you will love this glove...
