Anybody done anything dumber than me throwing away my A3000?

Two years ago when I packed up to move to Calgary I was going through things I didn't need and I came across my A3000. My uncle bought it for me back around 82-83. Never liked the glove but always kept it around. I don't recall the size but it was even a bit big for my tastes as an adult.

There was nothing wrong with it at all and it was in like new condition at 25 years old. Not sure what I was thinking but I'd love to punch myself in the face right now. I've been looking on eBay for them for a few weeks now and I never see them.

i have a similar story but probably won't top yours

the baseball coach at the highschool where im' at said he needed to borrow a glove. i didn't want to give him one of my prized gloves so i thought it would be low risk to loan him a japan model a3000 similar to yours (wingtip, velcro strap, XLO style web) that was 2 years ago and he keeps saying he'll have to look for it in the locker room. i've since given up on the hopes that he'll produce the $50 glove that i "loaned" him. every time i see him i can't help but think of Ulysses S. Grant (he's the president that's represented on a $50 bill in the US) for those of you who don't know

btw, when you say "threw away", did you mean in the garbage or in the thrift store bin? (not that it really matters)

Threw away as in I tossed it in the dumpster. Along with on older Rawlings I had too. The Rawlings got soaked in a plumbing issue and was stiff as a board. If I had found this site two years earlier I could have saved it. I tossed an old 50's cather's mitt too but that had a big rip in the pocket and the inside was coming out.

I just moved this past weekend and went through everything again hoping that is was just placed in an odd spot but no luck.

i suppose it's not the stupidest story i've heard, but rather it makes me shed a tear

back on 1980 i had an opportunity to buy a USA made pro1.000, pro5, pro7 and/or a pro8. i didn't think i could cough up the money ($70) so i opted for the lesser XFCB17 tom seaver model ($35). i wish i would have known and dropped some serious coinage back then.

it's like the real estate market i guess (coulda, woulda, shoulda)

at least i have my family and health

From the time I was 12, I picked up somewhere along the lines of 30-35 USA HOH (Pro-1000s, CFCs, Tbs, Prong5, H, and on and on) For around 35$ a piece. I sold all of these gloves for around 90-100$ a piece.

Yea, not throwing them away, but considering their present value...

considering the fact I only used 4-5 for gamers, I wish I would have held on to them longer and at least used them all for gamers....

if my simple calculations are correct

12 x $300 = $3600 - $420 = $3180 net

that's a remarkable price you paid for those things. were they closeouts?

Sometime, in the early 1980s, I saw, felt, put my hand in an exact re-make of my then-ragged TG-12, don't know what the model number was, price was like $200, and I had just recently purchased and broken in my PRO-3. I couldn't afford that new Trapeze glove then, and I couldn't justify it, so I just put it back.

I cant believe I have never remembered the model number, but once at the Rawlings outlet I put my hand in a mint 12 1\4 LHT (I am lefty) black conventional back, with a pro-h web and wingtips. I decided that I didnt need another glove ( I bought 12 that day, to sell) and put it back.

The worst part is that it was $35 and it wasn't a blem.

My total net from the HOH and scores of blem pro wood bats added up to almost $6000 from between the ages of 13-16. I was able to buy my pickup truck with it. But I would probably be just as happy with a bicycle and a closet full of gloves today.

At least I could sell them for 2-3x as much

since the TG12 was dropped from the rawlings line i believe in the 60's, i'm guessing it was the re-introduced pro12tc (i'm too lazy to look it up in the catalog)

i remember being at sportmart in 1986 and didn't know the difference from a pro T which i owned and the pro12tc. they had about a dozen BLEMS hanging from pegs and i remember them being about $75 ea. I thought to myself, "you can only play with 1 glove at a time, what would i do with an extra glove?"

these stories are liken to the "one that got away" fishing stories

at 1st i was thinking a proBCB but when you said pro-H web, you might have passed up on a $35 pro6XTCB

I found a gold glove which must have been from the mid 90's at a local sports store 2 years ago brand new. I bought it, used it at practice a few times, and when i sold an old batch of gloves to get money to go to europe, I sold this on ebay for $70.

I now know after getting more into older gloves that this was probably quite valuable. It had solid gold embroidery on it, and the leather was tan. I'm still kicking myself about this one.

At this same sports store in 2006 I tried on a rawlings hoh first base mitt. I remember it being the stiffest glove that I've ever tried on. I now know that this was a horween glove which must have been from the late 90's.
