What is "Super Skin" on the Wilson A2000?

Postby NokonaFan » July 1st, 2008, 2:08 pm

Was looking at the A2000 models and noticed the back is covered in 'super skin' -- what is this? A synthetic backing rather than cowhide? Or cowhide based? Benefits? Drawbacks?

synthetic, black, slightly pebbled in texture. it is lighter than cowhide and does not scratch as cowhide does. you see it mostly in catcher's mitts where the traditionally heavier weight and constant exposure to dirt make it useful (or so goes the rationale).

Superskin...

I have a K97 A2000 trapeze glove with super skin and it was a really nice glove. But overall I like a glove to be made of actual leather, to clean it, condition it, conform to a shape.

I can see the pros and cons. I think it just depends what you like.

I sold mine and bought a Mizuno Pro Limited instead...happy with it.

My oldest son (11 year old) has an A2000 G4BG. He saw me working on one for a customer and fell in love with it because of the weight. Its also a pretty popular glove with his teammates. Whenever he plays catcher or 1b one of them always tries to take it from his bag and play the field with it.
