Worth the asking price?

Postby Musashi » June 22nd, 2008, 2:57 am

On a fluke, I ran across an craigslist ad (posted by a seller in Tennessee apparently trying to cash in on the Cubs connection) for an early 70s MacGregor Randy Hundley catcher's mitt in pretty much brand new condition. The guy is asking $250, which seems really high - what do you think?

Glove books for $75 in "near mint", which equates to about $150 for a "mint" grade glove (and is probably way over-optimistic).

Glove is listed as "common", meaning that there should be a plentiful supply out there for anyone looking to find one.

"Professional, full-sized mitt"? Not according to the catalogs. This was a "middle of the pack" offering, selling for about half the price of MacGregor's top-line mitts. Looks like vinyl trim and a slightly smaller pattern size.

You be the judge!
