redsoxfan - do you close your glove pinkie to thumb? having 2 fingers in the pinkie stall helps if that is how you are closing the glove... if the glove has a diagonal break, I think you are better off not doubling up. But since softballs are larger than baseballs you may have to go pinkie/thumb with smaller gloves - actually the glove doesn't really close all the way since the softball is pretty big...

I use the two finger pinky and it took time to get used two. It gives you better pocket for the ball. it is something i am teaching my son. does anyone know where it started. i really dont know why I or how i started doing it.

During Little League and high school ball I always played with my fingers in every stall. I hated (and still hate) the feel of my index finger out on fastbacks (which is the only glove type I had).

Now that I'm mostly done with competitive baseball I experiment a whole lot more. On my conventional backed Gold Glove I stick my index finger out because it just feels right. My softball glove is a fast back so all the fingers stay in.

One of my high school teammates who now plays college ball shifts his fingers in his glove. If the glove is broken in that way from the start it is awesome. The pocket it creates is great for scooping and catching.

Yeah Mike, I close pretty much pinky to thumb most of the time. And you're right for softball on smaller gloves it doesn't even always close all the way around the ball. I'm getting a new glove soon and I'm gonna break it in with the 2 fingers in the pinky stall with the index finger out from the get go.
