I was a catcher in High School and I had 2 mitts. Mitt #1 was a 32.5 Wilson A2403 and Mitt #2 was a Rawlings HoH (don’t remember the size but I think it was a 34’)
Here was my psychological way of thinking as a catcher:
I used the smaller mitt when I knew the pitcher had control of his pitches and I knew the “Blue” who would give us a little more of the plate.
I used mitt #2 when I knew the pitcher was all over the place and I needed to use the mitt as an advantage (bigger size-looked like it caught the plate but actually I was moving my mitt like it would drop in the strike zone) and I knew the “blue” was a jerk and would not give us either the inside or outside of the plate.
My opinion, you can’t use the same mitt with two different styles of pitching.
I’m just glad we didn’t have a knuckle-ball pitcher!!!
Just my thoughts,
