Differences in the Rawlings Gold Glove Series models?

Postby dapert » July 12th, 2008, 9:45 am

My son is using a Rawlings Bull Series glove for short stop but I want to get him an upgrade. He loves the top level Rawlings but I'm not quite ready to drop over $200 just yet.

He wants the modified trap web but there seems to be quite a price difference between models in the Gold Glove Series. I've been looking at three different models and I'm wondering if anyone can rank them in terms of level of quality or which is a step above the other.

Here are links to 2 gloves at a good price. The 1st is a protaper glove with smaller hand openings. Presumably for youth palyers. I have small hands as an adult, the glove fits snugly on me but not overly so. At 11.25" it is appropriate as an middle infield glove, my son (12U) uses it all over the field. The 2nd glove is one that you listed. It is an adult size mod-trap and suitable for all infield positions. I have a HOH of this model and it is a good all-round glove for playing catch, taking ground balls, and occasionally I shag outfield balls with it too. The GG series is an appropriate middle step before making a comittment to the pricey HOH and PP level gloves. The gloves you buy now will still have a place in your kid's bat bag as backup gloves once he makes the transition to the next level. Good luck and buy one for your self at these prices.

GGL204DC, limitted edition featuring dual core technology. This is the latest trend in Rawlings gloves. Also appears to have better lace, etc. Probably a step closer to HOH. Price @ $119 from just gloves.com

GGP2004C, traditional GG model. everything is the same as in previous models, buff and brown color Priced @ $79 to $99 depending on source.

GG204B, traditional GG but in black. Priced @ $79 to $99 depending on source.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I had a feeling the dual core was a step up since it looked a bit sturdier. At those prices I'll get both and be "stuck" with the one he likes least.

In my opinion the regular gold glove would be more sturdy than the dual core. the main idea for the dual core is that it has a broken in feel, however I think it feels too flimsy. The regular gold glove isn't hard to break in either.
