Thanks Matt,

This statue is galvano. Galvano is a very hard plaster that is then coated with copper and given a finish to resemble bronze. This piece, as well as a bronze version, were made in the 30s by artist Jack Lincoln Lambert. Here is a page from an old catalog where they could be purchased as statues or on a trophy. Mine is the 10 1/2" version. One of the trophies sold in REA a year or two ago as a Spalding batter. These pieces are all exceedingly rare.

Here is a bronze in my collection by Lambert. You can see the listing for it to the left of the batter trophy on the catalog page. It's called "at the plate" item J-806.
