Major Sporting Events You've Attended

Postby vintagebrett » December 17th, 2008, 9:00 am

What "major" sporting events have you had the chance to experience so far? My list is:
2007 World Series Game 2
2008 ALCS Game 5
2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Club final round
2006 PGA Championship at Medinah - all rounds (I was a volunteer)
1990, 1998, 2007 NCAA Basketball Tournament 1st and 2nd rounds

I have tickets to the 2009 NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Boston this coming March.

The ones I'd still like to see are:
1) Duke / UNC game at Cameron Indoor
2) NCAA Final Four
3) British Open
4) Masters

No real major events (unless you count a Rose Bowl game). But I have been to all 30 Major League Baseball parks (including some that have gone on to the outfield in the sky...like Qualcomm, old Busch, Montreal, etc.). Of course, now that the Yankees and Mets have new parks coming, I suppose as of opening day I have only been to 28 current ones. Off to the Big Apple for sure to keep my count alive.
Alas, my glove is better than my game.

Nothing extremely major,

but I have family in College Station and usually see the Texas A&M vs. texas game every other year. Sadly, we lost this year (terrible field :) was the cause) but we won 2 years in a row :D

I've been to Wimbledon which was very cool.

My brother and I are currently trying to scheme our way to New Orleans somehow for the Sugar Bowl. Go Utes!
Give us the gate key. I have no gate key.

Went to the last game in The Boston Garden. Snuck down onto the parquet to watch all the Celtic greats get introduced passing the ball to eachother until it ended with Larry sinking a basket. Larry Bird...they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Hey Dan- I was games 3 and 5 at Yankme Stadium. Was rooting hard for the DBacks. That Brosius homer was one of the craziest scenes I can remember. -Mark

That was a great series. It had everything. In a storybook ending the yanks probably win, but I'm glad AZ was victorious. and I'm glad to hear that you were cheering on my team. or was it rooting against the yankees?

Being from MN my major sporting events attended are:

1987 World Series Game 7 (awesome best ever--Twins win!)
1991 World Series Game 7 (Twins win again)
Even though I hate the Metrodome for baseball, I gotta admit it was a great home field advantage and the loudest I've ever heard a crowd in 87 & 91

1991 US Open (Hazeltine Golf Course)
2002 PGA Championship (Hazeltine Golf Course)

1960 WS Game 7. I doubt I could ever top that.

Decades later, Haddix and Mazeroski signed my ticket, Maz also signed the program, and we had our picture taken.

Game 6 2003 WS (Unfortunately. When Beckett tagged Posada it was so quiet in the bleachers you could hear Juan Pierre screaming).

Every 2004 home Yankee playoff game, except Games 6 and 7. (Saw them dominate the Twins, minus game 1 vs Johan and then what looked to be a total domination of the Sox. It was still nice to shut up Curt Schilling in game 1).

1st and 3rd game of that June/ July 1 Yanks Sox series including the Jeter catch on 7/1/04. One of the greatest games I have ever been at. Talk about highs and lows.

1998 Jets vs Jaguars Playoff Game- Jets routed them

What will be the last games at the Metrodome this upcoming year, fortunately I'll get to play on the field for a final 6-10 games in Feb/March.

Ali-Spinks Sept. 15, 1978

It was my brother's birthday and I scored two free tickets from the promoter.

Ali-Spinks/ Superdome New Orleans, Louisiana.

The earlier fights on the card that night were absolutely incredible. Real Brawls.

Living in New Orleans and having friends that were behind the Superdome and professional sporting events in the city, I have seen more than my fair share of championship play, but that fight still stands out in my mind. probably, because I had just turned 20 and appreciated the fact that I could witness it, first hand.
