A couple of nice gloves for not a lot of money.
A 1950's Higgins Bob Feller model 1638 glove sold for $22. Not a pro level glove but still it has surprisingly soft supple leather. Pretty decent quality.

A little bit of a sleeper. The ebay photos were dark. I lightened them up so you can see it's close to near mint. A 1960's Rawlings model FP5 HOH mitt sold for $49. The FP standing for Flexomatic Palm. A TOTL model in its day. The wacky design was not popular and soon discontinued which makes it rare.

Listed as a 1910 base mitt, It's actually a mid 1920's Higgins Semi-Professional model 1654. It's in outstanding condition. It sold for $295.

A teens Spalding King Patent model glove sold for a measly $26. And this was an auction not a BIN. It has a lot of wear but seems decent enough.

Glovecrazy Rob has quite the Bob Doerr collection. I don't think he this this one unless he won this auction. It's a rare Stall & Dean model 8018, a TOTL glove in 1948. The telltale clues are the model number, endorsement graphic and the small Brockton stamp on the wrist strap. It looks to be in excellent condition. It sold for something south of $49.

A 1930-40's George A. Reach Co. Sam Chapman model BBC glove sold for $79. A quality model glove.

A 1930's Excelsior Brand Les Mallon glove sold for $49. More to this than meets the eye. The glove itself looks like a KenWel from the late 30's. Les Mallon is an obscure endorsement. KenWel had more than a few little known endorsers. Part of the Excelsior logo is hidden in the folds of the leather. I think the company that distributed the glove is stamped in the hidden part. It would be interesting to know the company involved because there is virtually zero information on the Excelsior brand.

Les Mallon Glove

Postby TigerFan » August 20th, 2025, 11:54 pm

The center circle surrounding "Excelsior" reads "Herman Sukon Co. New York, N.Y." Apparently this company was a sporting goods wholesaler.

Thanks for that Tiger Fan. I've never heard of that company and couldn't find much more about them except what you already discovered.

The Rawlings Mickey Mantle XPG6 glove that sold for $165 earlier this month was just flipped on ebay for $800

An interesting glove popped up on ebay. A !960-70's Spalding model 42-2073 sold for $45. It has a V-anchored web and is stamped Professional Model. The seller sold this as a Roger Maris model glove but doesn't look like there is anything on the glove to indicate that. Looks to be an uncatalogued model.

A 1957 Rawlings Harvey Haddix model HH glove sold for $299. The glove looks to be near mint. It features the anniversary patch.

A 1930's Reach Babe Ruth model RC2 catchers mitt sold for $599. A well used midline model with cloth piping. The Ruth endorsement is there but kind of weak.
595t.jpg

A 1930's Wilson Rogers Hornsby model glove sold for $500. A popular three finger model. It's Well used but still in very nice shape. The Hornsby endorsement is all there but faint.

An early crescent pad base mitt sold for $173. Listed as a Spalding but could be a Reach model. The cloth patch is very frayed. It's a quality mitt in decent condition.

A circa 1962 Sonnett Roberto Clemente model RC2 glove with original box sold for $168. The glove is near mint and a redesign of the original Clemente model RC glove issued earlier. It was one of Sonnett's best gloves back in the day.

A 1930's Saplding Babe Ruth HRS glove sold for $517. A made in Canada model distinguished by a unique V-back and strap. you don't see this version very often. It's in excellent shape.

A 1950's Rawlings Mickey Mantle model MM9 glove with rare original picture box sold for $499. All the value here is the box even though it is pretty tattered. I wonder if vintage cardboard is making a comeback.
