This 1920's Spalding Fastback model was top of the line in its day and expensive. The previous owner/player was not going to let this one go down without a fight. There is evidence of previous sewn palms applied until this riveted version was used. It's pretty skillfully done. A well used mitt will show a lot of wear to the thumb stall. This mitt has a monster tear cleverly repaired with eyelets and lace. The broken buckle strap is helped along with a large safety pin. That's a nice touch. The mitt sold for $75. I wonder if Carmi snagged this one, seems right up his alley.

not me. I have my share of repaired / altered mitts. Saw this and it brought a smile. People just loved their gloves and mitts and went to great lengths to extend usage. There should be a museum just for these old junkers.

Agreed Carmi, vintage repairs, especially on catchers mitts, are the coolest things ever. I love them. I woulda bought it if I saw it. I have one with rivets too.
